Originally released as a signature model for Argentinian tennis star Guillermo Vilas—the Puma GV Special cuts an imposing figure with a tall-stack sole and perforated toebox. This iconic look is something of an oddball when compared with other on-court silhouettes from the era. Indeed the GV Special is a monster in comparison to things like the adidas Grand Slam and Nike Supreme Court.
It's that recognisable look at Vilas' co-sign which made the GV Special a must-have for many at the time. One particular subculture which found interest in the GV was the UK's 'casuals' subset. Besotted with the comfort and out-of-this-world looks of the GV Special—plus it's high price-point—discerning lads had to get themselves a pair of GVs by any means necessary...
