One of the most recognisable shoes in Jordan history gets re-worked with new materials. As part of Jordan Brand's 'Reimagined' series, they take some of their most iconic styles and colourways—putting a new twist on these cultural icons.
Using the Air Jordan 1 'Royal' as a starting point, the design team replaced the traditional smooth leather uppers with a more textural combination of nubuck and suede. This relatively small change gives the shoe a completely new attitude. The namesake Royal Blue is much more saturated in suede, giving a vibrant glow which the OGs don't have. The matte finish of the black nubuck has a similar effect, soaking up the light compared with leather's natural sheen, allowing for much deeper contrast between the two hues.
Two seemingly insignificant tweaks give us a completely new shoe altogether. Sometimes less really is more. These are youths sizing—don't be leaving the little ones out this time.
