Although it's history dates back to 1898, it's not really until the 1980s that Saucony made it's presence known in the sneaker industry. The Shadow series spawned several offshoots, with the Shadow 5000 dropping just as the golden decade of sneakers came to a close in 1989.
Originally marketed with the tagline '1st is first. Second is nowhere' it's pretty clear what intentions Saucony had for the Shadow 5000. Although performance footwear has moved on, the Shadow 5000 remains one of the most comfortable sneakers you'll find.
